Lend a hand at Seeing Eye Dogs as a volunteer

You don’t need to house a pup or dog to support the work of Seeing Eye Dogs. There are plenty of opportunities to make a difference by volunteering on-site at our kennel facility in Kensington, Victoria. From office administration to supporting our dog care team, if you would like to lend a hand, we would love to hear from you.

Kennel support volunteer

The kennels at Seeing Eye Dogs are a great place to gain valuable industry experience while getting to know and care for our wonderful dogs. We have volunteer positions available to support the kennel team, completing four hours work each week with a minimum commitment of 12 months. 

Kennel support volunteers assist with all aspects of dog care, including grooming, food preparation, exercise, behaviour monitoring, cleaning, and loads of cuddles.

While we encourage anyone to apply, our ideal candidates are studying towards or have completed one of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Biosciences
  • Bachelor of Veterinary and Wildlife Science
  • Bachelor of Zoology and Animal Science
  • Veterinary Nursing
  • Animal Studies
  • Companion Animal Services
  • Pet Grooming

Work experience opportunities at Seeing Eye Dogs 

Seeing Eye Dogs offers limited weekday work experience placements at our kennel site in Kensington, Victoria. This unique program offers students the chance to learn about the vital work that we do to support the blind and low vision community whilst gaining hands-on industry experience.  

We accept applications from high school students in years 10-12, university students and TAFE students, who have a keen interest in working with dogs and in contributing to the blind and low vision community. 

Due to operational requirements, we can only take two students per month.
