Who we are
Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs is the only national breeder, trainer and provider of dog guides. Seeing Eye Dogs help people who are blind or have low vision to live a more active and independent life, giving them the confidence to move more freely through the community.
Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs is a people-centric organisation and we work in close cooperation with every client. This allows us to create and deliver personalised 1:1 training programs for every individual, allowing them to live the life they choose.
Our mission
To enhance the mobility and independence of people who are blind or have low vision throughout Australia by providing Seeing Eye Dogs, mobility training and rehabilitation services.
Accreditations
Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs is a full member of the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) and was one of the first training schools in the world to meet their rigorous international accreditation standards.
We are also full members and meet all the accreditation standards of Assistance Dogs International (ADI).
A brief history of Seeing Eye Dogs
Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs was founded in 1960 by Mrs P. M. Gration, a strong advocate for independent travel. Living with blindness herself, she understood how dog guides could improve the quality of life for people who are blind or have low vision by providing independent mobility.
In July 2008, Seeing Eye Dogs merged with Vision Australia to expand their mobility offerings to include dog guides.
Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs is a non-profit organisation that relies on the support and generosity of community donors and volunteers. While we get some funding through government schemes, it’s not enough to cover the cost of breeding, care and intensive training required to develop our incredible Seeing Eye Dogs.
