About Hippo
Hippo is a big-hearted, high-energy dog with a playful personality and a knack for bringing joy to everyone around him. Though his Seeing Eye Dog journey didn't pan out, he has all the qualities of a devoted companion who thrives on love, activity, and snuggles.
Where I grew up
Hippo grew up with an active, mature-aged couple in a peaceful country town, where he became accustomed to lots of love and involvement in daily life. He has primarily lived on his own, which might explain his boisterous enthusiasm when he gets the chance to play with other dogs.
A good fit for me is...
Hippo is looking for a family that matches his active and social nature. A household where someone is home often—like retirees or those who work from home—would suit him best. His family should be prepared to provide regular exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of companionship. If there’s another dog in the home, they should have a similar energy level and enjoy rough-and-tumble play.
My personality traits
- Affectionate Snuggle Buddy: Hippo loves to curl up on the couch for a nap or cozy up for snuggles. He’ll bring endless warmth to your home.
- Playful but Boisterous: Hippo plays enthusiastically with other dogs and may get overly excited, occasionally mounting during play. This big boy needs a compatible playmate or supervision during doggy interactions.
Active but Sensible: Hippo thrives with a good energy outlet, such as a morning run or walk. However, he’s prone to occasional lameness (recurrent pano), so exercise should be balanced to avoid overexertion.
Hippo barks when left alone but settles quickly with reassurance and a consistent routine.
Strong but Manageable: Hippo is a large, powerful dog, but he walks beautifully with a head collar.
- Cuddle Enthusiast: Above all, Hippo loves to be close to his people and thrives in a home where he can be included and loved.
If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and active companion who will brighten your days, Hippo would love to meet you.
