About Dewey
Dewey is a calm, affectionate, and eager-to-learn companion who thrives on human connection. He’s a large, strong dog with a charming presence and a big heart. Whether accompanying you to work, attending university lectures, or relaxing at home, Dewey’s adaptable and laid-back demeanor makes him an excellent companion for someone who values loyalty and love.
Dewey was removed from the Seeing Eye Dog training program after not passing his hip and eye screening. He has very mild hip dysplasia in one hip and a small cataract in his left eye. Neither condition has caused him noticeable issues, but maintaining a lean body condition is important to support his joint health. Due to his health diagnosis his adoption fee has been reduced.
Where I grew up
Dewey grew up in a bustling CBD apartment with two young adults. Dewey has excellent indoor behavior and happily settled in a crate overnight. Though he didn’t live with another dog, he’s had plenty of exposure and enjoys making new canine friends.
Dewey has also experienced professional and academic environments. He settles splendidly in offices, bringing calm energy to the workplace. While attending university lectures with his carer, he was attentive but found tutorials a bit more distracting due to the lively interactions with other students.
A good fit for me is...
Dewey would thrive in a home that:
- Appreciates his calm, affectionate nature and eagerness to learn.
- Can support him in managing dog distractions and channeling his excitement.
- Understands his size and strength, providing confident handling and a safe environment.
- Offers a mix of mental stimulation, exercise, and quiet companionship.
Dewey is adaptable to various living arrangements, including apartments, as long as he has regular walks and engagement. His ideal adopter will understand his health considerations and be committed to maintaining his lean body condition.
