About Adam

Adam is a retired Seeing Eye Dog who spent over 7 years as a dedicated working guide for a couple in Queensland. He recently retired due to increasing anxiety when passing unknown dogs on the street, which made it unsafe for him to continue working in his guiding role. He’s now looking for a calm, loving retirement home where he can enjoy life at a slower pace.
Adam is a beautifully trained, affectionate Labrador with excellent house manners and a lot of love to give. He has mild osteoarthritis and is currently on a weight care diet to help him shed a few kilos and feel more comfortable. He enjoys gentle walks and snoozes on his bed (or the couch, if you’ll let him!).

Where I grew up

I grew up in Queensland and worked as a Seeing Eye Dog for more than 7 years. I lived with a couple who loved me very much. Since retiring, I’ve been in a lovely relief care home in Victoria with a family that includes two children—and I love kids!

A good fit for me is...

•    A quiet home with a backyard where I can potter around and relax.
•    Older adults or a family with gentle children—I'm very soft and loving with kids.
•    Someone home more often than not, or who can help me adjust to being alone gradually.
•    A home without cats—I find them a bit too interesting!
•    Ideally no other dogs, unless it’s a calm Labrador or similar breed. I get along best with dogs like me.
•    Someone who’s understanding of my fear of unfamiliar dogs and committed to helping me manage it with patience and positive training. I’ll never be a dog park dog, but I still love my outings and walks in quieter areas.

My personality traits

•    Super affectionate and gentle—I’ll nuzzle you for pats and even bring you my teddies to cuddle with!
•    Loyal and loving—I might get a little jealous if you’re patting another pet and will happily squeeze in for my share of affection.
•    Calm and quiet in the house—I love a good nap after a stroll or a bit of play.
•    Very well trained—I’ve lived my life with structure and kindness and it shows in my beautiful behaviour.
•    Not crate trained, but I don’t need to be. I sleep peacefully on a bed and never cause trouble.
