About India

India is a beautiful, affectionate young Labrador with a calm nature and a zest for life. She’s not continuing in the Seeing Eye Dogs program after her ophthalmology screening showed a small star cataract in both eyes and a retinal fold in her right eye. The cataracts are unlikely to progress and do not currently affect her vision, but will require monitoring in her new home. Her adoption fee has been reduced to reflect this.
India walks beautifully on a head halti and is a pleasure to take out and about. She’s used to accompanying her carer to work at a TAFE, where she spent her days calmly tethered and greeting people appropriately when invited.

Where I grew up

India grew up in a single-storey home with one adult and a steady, consistent routine. She slept overnight in her crate and occasionally on her dog bed in the bedroom, always settling well. During the day, she enjoys relaxing on her bed and being close to her people.
She’s had lots of social experiences — visiting workplaces, travelling on the train to the football, and having playdates with other dogs (always well-managed with tethers until everyone is calm).

A good fit for me is...

India would suit a quiet to moderately active home where she can be part of family life but also enjoy her downtime. She’s food-motivated, adaptable, and thrives on routine and gentle guidance.
She could happily live with another calm, mature dog, and she’s shown she can handle being around children respectfully when supervised.
Because she can get a little overexcited when greeting visitors or seeing familiar puppy friends, she’ll do best with someone confident in maintaining calm, consistent boundaries.
