About Jumbo

Jumbo is a gentle, loving boy who thrives on affection and being part of family life. He has excellent manners around the home, loves playtime and is equally happy settling on the deck, relaxing in his crate or having a snooze nearby.
Jumbo is not continuing in the Seeing Eye Dogs program. During his time in kennels, Jumbo showed a high level of concern in some situations, including around unfamiliar people, sounds and objects. When concerned, he may bark, become highly focused or need some extra time and space to settle.
This has not always been reflective of Jumbo’s behaviour in a home environment. During puppy development, he was comfortable approaching people and would actively seek attention on walks. He was also comfortable accompanying his carer to work and visiting an aged care centre.
At home, Jumbo may alert bark when people walk past, so his new family should be comfortable helping him manage this calmly.

Where I grew up

Jumbo grew up on a farm in a country town with his carer, her husband and their cat. Children regularly stayed at the home, and he was accustomed to plenty happening around him, including tourists walking past the property and ducks and birds nearby.
His days included walks or runs, drives to the shops, playing with the cat and, one of his favourites, enjoying a good sunbake.
Jumbo also accompanied his carer to work and to an aged care centre. He was described as calm and settled at the workplace and gentle with the elderly.

A good fit for me is...

Jumbo is looking for someone who can offer him affection, consistency and reassurance and understand that he is a sensitive, soft-natured boy.
His new family should be comfortable with some alert barking at home and willing to give him time and space if he shows concern in unfamiliar situations.
He would benefit from someone who can follow the behaviour support provided and continue helping him build confidence where needed.
Most of all, Jumbo would love people who enjoy his affectionate nature and are happy to make him part of everyday life.

What I’m working on
I’m learning how to manage situations that I find concerning. I can sometimes bark or become focused when I’m unsure, and at home I may alert bark when people walk past.
I do best with calm reassurance, clear guidance and a little time to settle. My new family will have behaviour support to help me continue building confidence.
