About Sugar

Sugar is a fun-loving, affectionate young dog whose name suits her perfectly. She thrives on being close to her people, enjoys being involved in daily life, and loves making new friends wherever she goes. While Sugar has many wonderful qualities, she is not progressing within the Seeing Eye Dogs program and is now looking for a family who can offer her an active and enriching life as a companion dog.
Sugar is currently taking Fluoxetine and will head to her new home with a six-month supply to support a smooth transition. Her new family should be willing to continue working with their veterinarian to manage her medication and ongoing behavioural needs.

Where I grew up

Sugar was raised in a quiet suburban home with two adult carers and no other household pets. She enjoyed a relaxed lifestyle while being regularly exposed to a variety of environments, including cafes, shopping centres, workplace visits and public outings.
She has attended a large office environment several times. While it can take her a little time to settle on her blanket, once comfortable she is calm and content to observe what's happening around her. She particularly enjoys meeting people and will often become alert and seek attention when someone approaches.

A typical day for Sugar looks like:
6:00am: Wake up, play or relax
7:00am: Breakfast
8:00am: Walk
Micro training sessions and play throughout the day
Afternoon walk when appropriate
6:00pm: Dinner
9:00pm: Bedtime
Weekends often included outings to parks, cafes and other dog-friendly adventures.

A good fit for me is...

Sugar is looking for an active home that can provide structure, consistency and plenty of positive engagement.

She would suit adopters who:
Have experience with energetic dogs or are committed to ongoing training.
Can provide regular physical exercise and mental enrichment.
Enjoy including their dog in daily activities and outings.
Are patient and willing to continue building her confidence.
Can respect and manage her handling sensitivities.
Understand that behavioural support and management will remain important throughout her life.
Sugar has had limited exposure to children. While she is generally able to settle well, her initial excitement when meeting people can include jumping up and enthusiastic greetings, which may be overwhelming for younger children. For this reason, a home with older, dog-savvy children, or an adult-only household, may be the best fit.
Sugar can be sensitive to environmental noises and may become startled by certain sounds. She particularly dislikes the prongs on rubbish trucks and may move away quickly when she encounters them. She is also cautious around metal grates, large puddles, gaps, heights and unfamiliar obstacles. While she is curious, she is not naturally adventurous and benefits from encouragement and reassurance when facing new experiences.

My personality traits

Extremely affectionate and people-focused
Loves attention and being part of family life
Smart, eager to learn and quick to pick up new skills
Excellent recall
Playful and energetic
Enjoys toys, especially carrying them around proudly
Can be excitable when meeting new people or dogs
Enjoys both activity and relaxing near her people
Benefits from routine and predictable expectations
Although Sugar loves company, she is also capable of relaxing independently in the same room as her people. She enjoys playing with toys on her own and particularly loves a giant toy carrot that is almost bigger than she is.
When bored or under-stimulated, Sugar may occasionally suck on the tip of her tail, most commonly when resting in her crate or during quiet periods at night.

Sugar would thrive in a home that can offer a balance of activity, companionship, enrichment and downtime. With her affectionate nature, love of people and eagerness to please, she has all the ingredients to become a much-loved family companion for adopters willing to support her unique needs.
