About Lira

Lira is a loving, intelligent Labrador looking for a home that can provide patience, routine and understanding while she settles into her next chapter. In the right environment, she is affectionate, responsive to training and a wonderful companion who enjoys both adventure and downtime with her people.
Lira has many lovely qualities and will thrive with adopters who recognise that while she can find transitions and change challenging, she settles beautifully once she's settled into a routine.
Lira is a sweet, loyal dog with a big heart. She is looking for a family who can see past her initial worries, give her time to settle, and enjoy the affectionate, clever and devoted companion she becomes once she feels at home.

Lira is eager to please, quick to learn and loves being with people. In a familiar home environment with a consistent routine, she has lovely house manners, walks well on a halter and responds very well to training.
She is an affectionate dog who enjoys cuddles and companionship, and she is equally happy joining her people on outings, long drives, or simply relaxing at home.

Where I grew up

Lira grew up in a family home in Melbourne's CBD with two teenage children who were very affectionate with her. She is comfortable living in a household environment and has demonstrated good manners around the home.
She has also successfully completed relief care placements, including living alongside free-range chickens without issue. She is familiar with crate training and comfortably slept overnight in a crate at her foster carer's home.
Like many Labradors, Lira enjoys chewing on sticks and, if left to entertain herself for too long in the backyard, may occasionally decide to do a little digging.

A good fit for me is...

Lira is best suited to adopters who can provide a predictable routine and are prepared to support her through the initial adjustment period of moving into a new home.
When Lira experiences a significant change of environment, routine or handler, she can become anxious and fearful. During these periods she may be worried by novel objects, stairs, heights, tight spaces and unfamiliar environments.
Once settled into a familiar environment with a familiar handler, Lira's confidence improves significantly. She establishes routines well and becomes a calm, affectionate and enjoyable companion.
Lira would do well as an only dog, or with a calm, older dog who won't encourage overly exciting play. While she loves spending time with canine friends, she can become easily over excited during play, and needs supervision to redirect her, which may not suit every canine companion or household.
She would suit a family, couple or individual looking for an active companion to share everyday life with. While she is not suited to an assistance dog role due to her sensitivity to change, she would thrive in a home where she can participate in enjoyable activities, training, enrichment or even therapy-style visits once she has developed confidence and trust with her handler.

My personality traits

Affectionate and People-Focused
I love being around people and am happiest when I'm included in family life. Whether we're relaxing at home or heading out for the day, I enjoy being close to my humans.
Eager to Learn
I'm quick to learn, responsive to training and enjoy working with my handler. I like knowing what's expected of me and do well when given clear guidance.
Happy to Relax
Once I've settled in, I'm more than happy to simply keep you company. I love a comfortable routine and enjoy quiet time just as much as activity.
Social and Playful
I enjoy spending time with other dogs and love to play. Sometimes I get a little overexcited and need help calming down, but my enthusiasm comes from a good place.
Building Confidence
New environments and big life changes can feel overwhelming for me. I may be cautious around unfamiliar objects, stairs, heights or busy environments until I have time to process them. With patience, consistency and support, my confidence grows and my lovely personality shines through.
