About Megan
Megan is a bright, energetic young Golden Retriever who loves being around people and getting involved in whatever is happening around her. She is affectionate and playful, often seeking out pats, belly rubs, and evening cuddles once she begins to settle.
She is naturally curious and enjoys exploring her environment, with a strong love of running and being active. Megan thrives on engagement and connection, and she will do best in a home that can provide both structure and ongoing positive interaction.
Megan is currently on fluoxetine and will benefit from continued behavioural support to help her build confidence and regulate her responses to stimulation. She is best suited to an experienced home that understands how to support a more sensitive, highly aroused dog.
Where I grew up
Megan was raised in a home with one adult and regularly attended the workplace, including time spent in a gym environment with loud noise and movement. Her routine included early starts, busy environments, and time both at work and at home.
She grew up with other dogs, including older Golden Retrievers, and has successfully lived alongside familiar dogs when introductions have been managed carefully. She has also been exposed to cats in the home, though she has shown a tendency to chase.
Megan is crate trained and uses her crate as a safe space for rest and overnight sleeping.
A good fit for me is...
Megan will do best in a calm, structured home with adopters who are prepared to actively support her ongoing development. She requires an adopter who can read her cues and proactively manage distance, focus, and reward timing
Ideal home environment:
Adults or older children who can follow consistent structure and handling
A home where someone is around frequently
Access to secure outdoor space for controlled exercise and exploration
Commitment to positive reinforcement training and ongoing support
Can live with another dog if introductions are slow and carefully managed. She would find dog parks too overwhemling
Megan can become overstimulated easily and requires calm capable handling
Not suitable to live with cats or small/pocket pets
Management and support needs:
Continued support from a qualified positive reinforcement trainer
Use of a crate to support rest and settling indoors
High value food rewards for training, particularly on walks
A body harness for safer, more controlled walking
Environmental management to prevent counter surfing
She may lunge, bark, or vocalise when encountering unfamiliar dogs, particularly if they bark or engage with her
She benefits from structured routines to support settling, as she may pace or struggle to fully relax without guidance
Care considerations:
Kennel environments are not suitable, as she finds them highly stressful
In home pet sitting is recommended when owners are away
