About Ryee
Ryee is a beautiful, affectionate girl who thrives on human connection. She loves being with her people, enjoys playtime, and has excellent house manners—she doesn’t destroy anything and settles well both in and out of her crate. Ryee wears a head halti for walks and walks beautifully, especially when there are no distractions. She is used to public places and is calm and confident when out and about with her nose collar on.
Ryee is currently on fluoxetine for severe separation anxiety and generalised anxiety, and her new owner will need to be comfortable continuing this medication. Despite training and behavioural support, including time in an SED program, her separation anxiety remains a significant challenge, with only small improvements seen even while medicated. When stressed, Ryee can be very barky.
Where I Grew Up
Ryee has grown up in a home environment with two adults. She shared her space with another SED puppy and spent a lot of time with a pet Labrador. She also attended a workplace and used to visit Vision Australia, although she does not cope well with being left alone in a workplace setting.
Ryee regularly visits a nursing home and is exceptionally calm and gentle with the residents. The nursing home has two resident cats, and Ryee has interacted well around them. She is well accustomed to public settings and a variety of environments.
A Good Fit for Me Is
Ryee’s biggest challenge is being left alone, so she would be best suited to:
• A family or individual who can spend lots of time at home with her
• Someone who is active, as she is used to very long daily walks
• A home where she is rarely left alone, or where crate time is used thoughtfully (she does not bark when left alone in her crate)
• A household with other pets—Ryee interacts very well with other animals
• An adopter who is understanding of anxiety-related behaviours and comfortable managing ongoing medication
Ryee will adapt well to most home environments as long as her need for companionship is met.
My Personality Traits
• Super affectionate and loves to be with you all the time
• Calm and gentle, especially with elderly residents in nursing homes
• Fantastic to walk with and confident in public places
• Very playful but well-mannered indoors
• Excellent in the crate and able to self-settle
• Social and friendly with other dogs and animals
