The Seeing Eye Dogs Show: Seeing Eye Dog Criteria and 10 years with VA

16 July 2018

Presented by Kennel Attendant and actor Cam Faull, the Seeing Eye Dogs Show, broadcast on Vision Australia Radio, is your guide to the incredible work that goes on behind the scenes at Seeing Eye Dogs.

Broadcast fortnightly, the show will also bring you all of the latest in dog health, puppy and foster caring, interviews with experts and more.

On the latest edition, Cam talks to Harry Vanderjagt, Senior instructor and Client Services Manager about the early days of Seeing Eye Dogs and discusses the role of ongoing support of our clients and dogs after they graduate.

“My primary role entails working with clients. I training clients, visiting clients, conducting follow up visits and interviewing clients who are interested in dog mobility and assessing clients to see whether they are suitable,” Harry said.

“There is basic criteria that we need to people to meet to know that person is suitable for dog training,” he said.

With 2018 also marking a decade since Seeing Eye Dogs merged with Vision Australia, Harry also spoke about what that has meant for clients.

“We were very focused on dogs in the early 2000s and then came the opportunity to merge with Vision Australia, which we saw as a very positive thing,” he said.

“We saw that as an opportunity to encapsulate all services together in one organisation and an opportunity for people that were just receiving dog services to encourage and refer them to other services that Vision Australia and vice versa.”
